Elderly man hacked to death in Jashore over granddaughter's harassment dispute

An elderly man was fatally attacked in Jashore's Monirampur upazila after a dispute arose concerning the alleged harassment of his granddaughter. The incident occurred around 10:00 PM yesterday in Sharmapur village.

The victim, identified as Imamul Hossain, 65, from Farasatpur village, was reportedly involved in a dispute with local residents the day before the attack. The case statement alleges that the conflict stemmed from repeated harassment of his granddaughter by a local youth.

According to the case filing, the accused assaulted Imamul with sharp weapons and sticks, inflicting critical injuries. He was transported to Jashore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician. The body is scheduled for an autopsy.

Monirampur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Raziullah Khan confirmed the murder and stated that a case has been filed by the victim's family against six individuals. Police have apprehended one suspect, identified as Hossain, who has reportedly confessed to his involvement during initial interrogation. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the remaining accused.
