Privacy

DistantNews is designed to respect your privacy as much as possible.

• No user accounts (yet). There are no sign-ups, logins, or profiles at this stage.
• Cloudflare Analytics. We use Cloudflare's built-in analytics, which provides overall traffic data without tracking individual users or setting cookies.
• Local storage only. Dark mode preferences and any future "saved countries" features use your browser's localStorage, which never leaves your device.

Advertising and affiliate links

We do not currently run third-party display advertising. Some pages may include affiliate links, such as travel booking or activity links. If you click one of those links and make a purchase, DistantNews may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate partners may use their own cookies or similar technologies after you click through to their sites. Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies.

Google Fonts

We use Google Fonts to display typography on this site. When you visit a page, your browser downloads font files from Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address and basic browser information. See Google Fonts Privacy for details.

Your rights

Under the GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and similar data protection laws, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to opt out of data sales or personalised advertising. Since we do not collect personal data directly, most rights requests should be directed to the relevant third-party service, or you can contact us at the address below.

When we add features like newsletter sign-up or user accounts in the future, this page will be updated before those features go live. Newsletter sign-up will use double opt-in from day one.

Cookies

DistantNews itself does not set tracking cookies. We use Google Consent Mode v2 to manage preferences for any future analytics or advertising tools that require consent.

• Before you choose: Optional analytics or advertising storage defaults to denied.
• If you accept: Future optional tools may use cookies or similar storage where disclosed.
• If you decline: Optional analytics and advertising storage remain denied.

You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage.

Content Policy

DistantNews is a news research, translation, and publishing service. Our content includes:

1. Article records discovered through publicly available RSS and Atom feeds.
2. Translated headlines and descriptions from vetted international news sources.
3. Original English-language summaries written by our team.
4. Country profiles, guides, and editorial resources.
5. Blog posts and articles on international news and media.
6. Every translated article prominently credits its source and links to the original.

Our summaries are original, transformative works created for discovery purposes. We link readers to the original publications and drive traffic to source newspapers, not away from them.

Source Removal

If you are a rights holder and believe content on DistantNews infringes your rights, please email us with the specific URLs, the rights at issue, and your relationship to the publication. We review valid legal requests promptly and may remove or disable access where required or appropriate: hello@distantnews.com.

Accuracy

While we strive for accuracy in our translations and summaries, errors may occur. Always refer to the original source article for authoritative information.
