1 dead, 1 hospitalized after fight, vehicle strike in Toronto

A fight that began early Sunday morning in Toronto has resulted in one fatality and one person hospitalized. Police responded to reports of a large group engaged in a fight in the area of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue around 6:01 a.m.

According to Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury, an argument escalated into a physical altercation. During the incident, one man was struck by a light-colored vehicle, which then fled the scene. Emergency services performed life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The homicide unit is investigating the death. Supt. Jack Gurr, unit commander for 31 Division, described the area as normally quiet and called the incident "alarming." Police have issued a warning to the suspects, urging them to find a lawyer and turn themselves in as investigators actively gather information.

Bradbury stated that the incident is believed to have been localized, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
