A tragic plane crash in the Bahamas has claimed the lives of all 10 individuals on board, including the pilot and nine passengers. The incident occurred on Sunday when a small aircraft registered in the Bahamas and operated by Flamingo Air went down shortly after departing from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. The Cessna 402 was en route to San Andros island when it crashed in waters west of the capital.

Bahamian authorities have confirmed that one passenger initially survived the crash but later succumbed to their injuries. The Bahamas' Prime Minister, Philip Brave Davis, issued a statement of mourning, noting the tragedy occurred on the nation's 53rd Independence Day, turning a day of celebration into one of sorrow. In response to the incident and another aviation safety event on the same day, the Bahamian government has temporarily suspended all flights operated by Flamingo Air.

The Bahamas Civil Aviation Authority stated that the suspension of Flamingo Air's air operator certificate is a precautionary safety measure while the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. This action also follows a separate aviation incident earlier that day, where a Flamingo Air flight heading to Mayaguana reported engine trouble and returned to Nassau. Upon landing and disembarking passengers, a fire broke out on board that aircraft.

The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union confirmed that several musicians and DJs were among the passengers on the crashed flight. In a statement, the union expressed deep sorrow, recognizing the "talented and vibrant members of the entertainment community" whose "passion, dedication, and artistry touched the lives of many and contributed to enriching the cultural fabric of the Bahamas."
