11 Arrested in Panama Illegal Mining Operation

Panamanian authorities have arrested 11 people, including a minor, in an operation targeting illegal mining activities in the San Martín region. The raid, conducted by the National Police in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Public Ministry, took place in the La Bonga sector of Mamoni Arriba.

During the operation, officers discovered two improvised camps suspected of being used for illegal mining. They confiscated four firearms, ammunition, electronic equipment, and two packages containing what is believed to be an illicit substance, along with digital scales. The police emphasized their commitment to continuing operational actions to combat environmental crimes and protect natural resources.

Further investigation revealed that two of the apprehended individuals had active arrest warrants for homicide. One of these cases is reportedly linked to an incident that occurred on July 8, 2025. Authorities are continuing their investigations to establish the full extent of the suspects' involvement and clarify any associated crimes.
