11 charged in connection with events leading up to fatal police shooting of teen Nooran Rezayi

Montreal police announced charges against 11 individuals allegedly involved in events that led to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi by Longueuil police last September. The accused include four young men and seven teenagers, who were between 13 and 17 years old at the time of the incident.

Authorities stated that the charges encompass conspiracy to kidnap, conspiracy to commit unlawful confinement, conspiracy to commit assault, wearing a disguise for a criminal purpose, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unlawful assembly. These individuals are expected to appear in youth court in the coming months.

The investigation by Montreal police specifically examined the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Concurrently, Quebec's police oversight body, the BEI, is conducting its own separate investigation into the conduct of the officers involved in the fatal encounter. The incident occurred after police responded to a 911 call reporting a group of armed youths.
