13 Dead After Tourist Plane Crashes in Peru En Route to Nazca Lines

A small tourist plane carrying foreign visitors crashed shortly after takeoff from Pisco, Peru, killing all 13 people aboard. The victims included seven Italians, two Germans, two Spaniards, and the two crew members.

The Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft went down around 1:00 pm Saturday, approximately 150 miles south of the capital, Lima. Police Major Jorge Andrade confirmed at the crash site that there were no survivors, with authorities beginning the grim task of recovering bodies from the wreckage.

Peru's civil aviation authority and air accident investigators are looking into the cause of the crash. Preliminary information from municipal officials in Vista Alegre, where the plane came down, suggested an "in-flight emergency" may have been responsible, though further details were not immediately available.

The aircraft was operated by AeroDiana, a company that offers sightseeing tours over the Nazca Lines, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its ancient geoglyphs. This incident is not the first of its kind; in 2022, seven people died in a similar crash, and four British tourists and two crew members perished in a 2010 incident.
