13 killed in West Java road accident involving pickup truck and two trucks

A horrific traffic accident on the Pantura route in Indramayu, West Java, has claimed the lives of 13 people. The collision involved a pickup truck carrying passengers returning from a wedding and two large trucks.

One of those killed was the driver of the open-bed truck.

The incident occurred around 2:00 PM on Sunday when the pickup truck, driven by Warkidi, was attempting to make a U-turn. According to police, the vehicle was first struck from behind by a Hino Wing Box truck. It was then pushed forward and hit by another Hino truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Of the 17 people in the pickup truck, three died at the scene. The remaining ten victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at two separate hospitals: RSUD Bhayangkara in Losarang and RS Mitra Plumbon in Widasari. The deceased included the pickup truck's driver.

According to witnesses, the Grand Max pickup truck driven by Mr. Warkidi was coming from the direction of Jakarta towards Cirebon when it stopped in the right lane, then was hit from behind by the front of a Hino Wing Box truck.

Police from the Indramayu Traffic Unit and the West Java Regional Police are conducting an accident analysis to determine the exact cause. Initial reports indicate that the pickup truck was stopped in the right lane while attempting the maneuver when it was hit. The accident has deeply affected local communities, with eight of the deceased identified as residents of Blok Cemeti in Cempeh Village.
