13 rescued as building collapse injures 16 in Kano

A residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kano State early Saturday morning, leading to a significant rescue effort. The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that its Emergency Response Unit was dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at approximately 4:32 am.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered a collapsed residential structure measuring about 20 by 30 feet. The rescue operation successfully extracted 13 individuals from the debris. Ten victims were found alive, while three were unconscious. Among those rescued alive were Al-Mustapha Yusuf (15), Khadija Yusuf (7), Ummusalama Yusuf (10), Madina Yusuf (6), and Hafsat Yusuf (9).

Upon receiving the report, men of the Service from the Headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, they discovered that a residential building of about 20 by 30 feet had collapsed.

The three victims found unconscious were identified as Affan Yusuf (5), Hassana Yusuf (7), and Ummulkursum Yusuf (9 months). The fire service stated that eight other individuals rescued alive could not be immediately identified. All rescued victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, identified as their father's brother, for further care.

The cause of the building's collapse remains undetermined, and an investigation is currently underway. The Kano State Fire Service has advised the public to adhere to necessary safety measures, especially during the rainy season, and to report any signs of structural weakness to the relevant authorities to prevent similar incidents.
