14 hurt in Sulu highway accident

Fourteen villagers sustained injuries in a highway accident in Indanan, Sulu, on Friday, July 31, 2026. The incident involved an Army boom-type lifter crane truck from the 545th Engineering Brigade and five other vehicles.

Officials reported that the Army truck's driver lost control due to mechanical issues while traversing a remote stretch of highway in Barangay Kajadtian. The vehicle then collided with two Tamaraw FX vans and three tricycles, all carrying passengers. The heavy equipment also struck and damaged a nearby house constructed of semi-permanent materials.

All 14 injured villagers were promptly transported to the Sulu Provincial Hospital in Jolo for medical treatment by local emergency responders and police. The soldier operating the crane truck voluntarily surrendered to the Indanan Municipal Police Station. Both the Indanan local government unit and the 545th Engineering Brigade have provided initial financial assistance to the injured for their medical expenses.
