15 Killed in Terrorist Attack on Police Checkpost in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

At least 15 people, including 12 soldiers, two police officers, and a government official, died in a terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday. The military's media wing confirmed the incident, which occurred early Friday in the Tank district.

Militants, identified by authorities as Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term used for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), attempted to breach the security post. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that security forces responded effectively, preventing the attackers from entering. The military stated that personnel at the facility demonstrated "unwavering courage and professional excellence" in engaging the militants, resulting in the deaths of 15 terrorists.

However, the attackers later detonated an explosives-laden vehicle against the checkpost's perimeter wall. This powerful blast severely damaged the infrastructure and caused the fatalities among the security personnel and officials. A sanitization operation is ongoing to locate any remaining militants involved.

The attack underscores a rise in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The military has vowed to continue counter-terrorism operations under the "Azm-i-Istehkam" campaign to dismantle militant networks. This incident follows recent operations where security forces reported killing 24 militants in the Bannu district amid a surge in attacks targeting police and security personnel.
