150 Cyclists Ride Through Penghu for World Bicycle Day

Penghu celebrated World Bicycle Day with a vibrant "Cycling the Penghu Islands" event, drawing approximately 150 cycling enthusiasts for a scenic 15-kilometer journey. The ride, organized by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, offered participants breathtaking views of the island's coastline and natural landscapes.

Led by officials from the administration and the Penghu County Government's Education Department, the cyclists embarked on a route that wound through forests and along coastal roads. The event served as a prelude to the larger "Penghu Island Hopping 101K" cycling activity scheduled for September, aiming to build excitement and prepare participants.

This initiative is part of a broader national campaign, "Beautiful Taiwan by Bike," which promotes cycling as more than just transportation. Organizers emphasize its role as a tool for deep exploration, allowing individuals to connect with the environment and local culture at a slower pace. The 15km distance was specifically chosen to encourage this mindful engagement with the surroundings.

The event is one of many planned across Taiwan throughout the year, coordinated by the Tourism Administration to showcase the diverse cycling routes available in 11 national scenic areas. Despite overcast skies due to the plum rain season, the weather remained favorable for the cycling activity, allowing participants to fully enjoy the fresh air and ocean breeze.
