18 inmates fall ill at Zonguldak prison

A group of 18 inmates at the Beycuma M Type Prison in Zonguldak, Turkey, experienced sudden illness, reporting symptoms of nausea and vomiting. The affected individuals were housed in both the closed section (15 inmates) and the open section (3 inmates) of the facility.

Upon notification, emergency health teams were dispatched to the prison to provide immediate medical assistance. Following an on-site assessment, five inmates, three from the closed section and two from the open section, were transported to Zonguldak Atatürk State Hospital for more comprehensive examination and treatment.

After undergoing tests and receiving medical care at the hospital, the five inmates were discharged. Authorities confirmed that a diagnosis of food poisoning was not made for these individuals. As part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the illnesses, samples of both water and food from the prison were collected by the Zonguldak Provincial Health Directorate and the Zonguldak Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, respectively. The situation is reportedly being closely monitored.
