2 boys missing after being swept into rapids at Manitoba provincial park

A desperate search is underway in Manitoba's Whiteshell Provincial Park for two young boys who slipped into fast-moving rapids. The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on Saturday near Sturgeon Falls Trail at Nutimik Lake, approximately an hour and a half east of Winnipeg.

Officers from Lac du Bonnet & Area RCMP, along with local fire, EMS, and the Manitoba Conservation Service, responded to the scene. They learned that two boys, aged 10 and 13, had fallen into the water. The RCMP's underwater recovery team and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) were immediately deployed to assist in the search.

Despite extensive patrols conducted on the water and along the shorelines throughout Saturday and into Sunday afternoon, neither child has been located. Search efforts are ongoing, with RCMP and HEART teams continuing their work at the scene.

The Whiteshell Provincial Park is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, making the incident a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with natural waterways, especially during periods of high water flow.
