2 Jewish-owned Toronto bakeries vandalized, shots fired at 1

Toronto police are investigating a series of vandalism incidents targeting two Jewish-owned bakeries that belong to the same chain. The incidents, which occurred on Sunday, involved damage to property at Kiva's Bagel Bar and another location.

At approximately 8:12 a.m., police responded to reports of a window being struck by gunfire at the Kiva's Bagel Bar on Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West. Later, around 8:30 a.m., officers received another report of a broken window at a Kiva's Steeles Avenue West location. However, there was no evidence of a firearm being used at the second site.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with either incident. The Toronto police's guns and gangs and hate crime units have taken charge of the investigation. Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury informed reporters that police would be canvassing the areas, leading to an increased police presence.

While both businesses are part of the same bakery chain, authorities have not yet determined any specific connections between the two incidents beyond their shared ownership and the nature of the vandalism.
