20-Year Turkish Drama "Arka Sokaklar" Ends, Screenwriter Confirms

The long-running Turkish television drama "Arka Sokaklar" (Back Streets) has officially concluded after 20 seasons, its screenwriter Ozan Yurdakul announced. The series, which began in 2006, initially ran under Erler Film for many years before continuing for three more seasons under D Media production.

We are certainly sad about this. However, we are also proud that we were able to sustain this adventure for 751 weeks.

Yurdakul shared the news with emotional reflections, noting that the show's journey, initiated by the late Türker İnanoğlu in 2006, has now ended. He expressed regret that the series, which aired for approximately 20 years and 751 weeks, could not bid its audience a proper farewell. Despite this, he conveyed gratitude to everyone involved in the production and to the viewers for keeping the show alive for so long.

Arka Sokaklar, which existed on its own terms in the screen competition for 20 years, witnessing recent history and a period of Turkey, should have been able to bid farewell to its audience properly; unfortunately, it was not possible.

"We are certainly sad about this," Yurdakul wrote. "However, we are also proud that we were able to sustain this adventure for 751 weeks." He concluded by thanking everyone who contributed, both in front of and behind the camera, and especially the audience, drawing inspiration from the show's theme song, "A Different City." The decision not to continue the series was made jointly by D Media and Kanal D, considering current circumstances, despite preparations for a new season being underway.
