2026 annual table live: The race for Libertadores and Sudamericana places

The annual table is shaping Argentina’s route to the 2027 Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana while also defining one of the season’s relegation places. With the eighth round of the Clausura underway, all 30 Primera División clubs are still weighing continental ambitions against the danger of dropping to the Primera Nacional.

Belgrano de Córdoba have already secured a place in next year’s Libertadores after winning the 2026 Apertura. The Clausura and Copa Argentina winners will also earn direct berths. The remaining three Libertadores places will go to the top three teams in the combined table, which adds points from the Apertura and Clausura.

Independiente Rivadavia of Mendoza currently lead that annual ranking after an outstanding campaign under Alfredo Berti. The qualification picture can still shift, however, because clubs that reach an international competition by winning a tournament free their annual-table place if they also finish in a qualifying position.

That could happen with Belgrano, currently ninth, potentially leaving its Sudamericana place to the team in 10th. A similar situation would arise if Estudiantes de La Plata or Platense win the 2026 Libertadores and also finish among Argentina’s top three. Boca could create the same scenario by winning the 2026 Sudamericana and finishing first, second or third domestically, which would send the club to the next Libertadores.

The same points also count toward the averages table, which sends one team down. Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, promoted to the top flight this season, face the greatest danger. Aldosivi and Banfield are only slightly more secure. In the 2026 Libertadores, Estudiantes and Platense remain in the quarterfinals, while Boca and Lanús moved to the Sudamericana after finishing third in their groups. Boca are the only one of those two still chasing the title.
