2027: ADC faction disowns Atiku’s presidential bid

A significant internal dispute has emerged within Nigeria's African Democratic Congress (ADC), with a faction led by Nafiu Gombe publicly distancing the party from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's presidential aspirations for 2027. This faction asserts that the ADC has already concluded its nomination process, officially adopting Professor Chris Uba as its presidential candidate.

The Gombe-led faction has also challenged the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee, labeling it an unauthorized body lacking constitutional or legal standing to act on behalf of the party. Gombe stated that this clarification is essential to safeguard the ADC's identity and counter attempts to misrepresent its position ahead of the 2027 general elections, firmly asserting that Atiku Abubakar is not, and has never been, the party's presidential candidate.

The legitimate National Leadership of the ADC is fully cognizant of sustained overtures and coordinated efforts by certain coalition elements to compel the party into political alliances with other platforms.

According to the faction, the party's authentic leadership remains in control and has not engaged in any coalition or merger with other political parties. The ADC leadership emphasized its commitment to remaining an autonomous, ideologically grounded, and self-reliant political entity, intending to contest all elections based on its own merit, structure, and manifesto. This stance comes after the party reportedly completed all internal processes required by its constitution and the Electoral Act, formally nominating Professor Uba as its flag bearer for the 2027 election.
