2027: APC governors will deliver Tinubu’s re-election — Uzodimma

Governors of Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously declared their support for President Bola Tinubu's bid for re-election in 2027. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, emphasized that the responsibility for securing a second term rests heavily on the shoulders of the governors.

We spoke basically on two issues: one, politics, and the other, governance.

Following a meeting with President Tinubu in Abuja, Uzodimma stated that the governors discussed both governance and political matters. The primary focus of the governance discussions was on strategies to alleviate the cost of living for Nigerians, improve food security, boost agriculture, and ensure that the benefits of national reforms reach the populace. The governors also conducted an assessment of ongoing reforms, identifying areas for enhancement.

On the political front, President Tinubu formally briefed the governors on the formation of the Presidential Campaign Council. Uzodimma affirmed that the governors are "solidly behind" the President and are prepared to lead the campaign efforts within their respective states. He highlighted the necessity of combining subnational mobilization with national-level coordination to achieve electoral success.

Uzodimma stressed that the governors understand the challenges and are equipped to mobilize effectively. "The governors will identify what is required to carry out a successful and colourful campaign in their various states," he said. The APC governors expressed satisfaction with their discussions with the President, indicating a united front in their commitment to Tinubu's re-election and the party's success.

The responsibility of delivering the election lies on the shoulders of the governors at the subnational level, and it is a combination of what happens at the subnational level and the push at the national level that will yield the result we are looking for.
