2027: APGA Unveils Option A4 to Curb Rigging, Vote-Buying

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is making a bold move to reform its internal electoral processes by adopting the Option A4 voting system for its upcoming primaries, a significant step aimed at enhancing transparency and curbing the pervasive issues of rigging and vote-buying that plague Nigerian politics. This initiative, championed by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, signals a departure from "business as usual" and a commitment to ensuring the credibility of the party's electoral exercises.

Governor Soludo articulated a clear vision during the South-East Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting, emphasizing that the Option A4 system, which involves physical alignment, will allow aspirants to directly see their level of support. This contrasts sharply with the deceptive practices often associated with secret ballots, where payments do not necessarily translate into votes. His stern warning to party leaders and members underscores the seriousness of these reforms, aiming to cut wastefulness and foster a healthier, more credible party.

Additionally, aspirants are prohibited from visiting members of the state executive in their homes for inducement, with all engagements mandated to occur at designated party offices. This move aims to prevent undue influence and ensure a level playing field.

National Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa reinforced this reform agenda, detailing a modernization drive that includes digital registration, direct primaries, and the abolition of bundled nomination forms. The adoption of Option A4 is central to this modernization, ensuring maximum visibility and fairness. The party's commitment to aligning with Nigeria's Electoral Act and implementing a comprehensive code of conduct demonstrates a serious effort to professionalize its operations.
