2027 Budget Sets Aside First Funding for Center to Counter False and Manipulated Information

South Korea’s Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission has secured its first budget allocation for a transparency center aimed at responding to false and manipulated information.

The commission said it had prepared a 2.977 trillion won budget and fund-management plan for 2027. It is the first budget proposal since the body was launched in October 2025.

The proposed amount is 346 billion won, or 13.2%, higher than the 2026 budget assigned to the former Korea Communications Commission. The commission said the budget would support the development of the broadcasting and media industries, as well as the country’s transition toward artificial intelligence.

The allocation for the transparency center marks a new element in the commission’s spending plans. The brief report did not provide further details about the center’s structure or operations.
