2027: Danmarke clinches PDP gubernatorial ticket in Katsina

Yakubu Danmarke, a seasoned politician, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Katsina State, Nigeria. He clinched the ticket on Sunday at the party's primary held at the state secretariat in Katsina metropolis.

Danmarke secured the nomination through a consensus adoption following consultations with stakeholders. He then underwent a formal affirmation vote by delegates. The Chairman of the PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee, Nuradeen Sani, announced that 77,085 delegates were accredited, with 77,013 voting in favor of Danmarke. "Having satisfied the requirements of our party’s constitution and scored the highest number of votes, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke is hereby declared the winner and the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Katsina State in the 2027 elections," Barr. Sani stated.

A familiar contender in Katsina's political landscape, Danmarke has previously served as a local government chairman, a member of the House of Representatives (2003–2007), and a senator representing Katsina South (2007–2011). He has vied for the state's governorship multiple times under different political platforms.

I accept this responsibility with humility and a strong commitment to serve the people of Katsina State diligently," he said.

Danmarke identified insecurity, youth unemployment, and poverty as key challenges his administration would prioritize. He also called for unity within the PDP and urged members to commence mobilization efforts for the upcoming elections. Observers anticipate a strong challenge from the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, led by Governor Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, who is seeking re-election.
