2027: Ex-SGF Babachir warns Nigerians against voting Atiku

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has publicly urged Nigerians to reject former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Lawal accused Abubakar of practicing ethnic politics and attempting to influence the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State.

Atiku Abubakar wants to replace Suleiman Omar as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State with Alhaji Tukur Modibbo.

During a telephone interview with The PUNCH, Lawal alleged that Abubakar was orchestrating the replacement of the ADC's governorship candidate, Suleiman Omar, with Alhaji Tukur Modibbo. He warned that Abubakar's political maneuvers were driven by ethnic considerations and advised against supporting him.

He wants to bring Modibbo to replace Omar, who was elected at the primaries.

However, Atiku Abubakar has vehemently denied these accusations, labeling them as false and baseless. In a statement released by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar asserted that he had no involvement in any alleged plot to replace the ADC candidate in Adamawa State. The statement suggested that the allegations were fabricated by individuals uncomfortable with the growing unity within the ADC.

Atiku Abubakar’s politics was driven by ethnic considerations and warned Nigerians against supporting him in the next presidential election.

Shaibu further stated that Abubakar has never participated in any discussions or issued directives aimed at altering the party's nominated candidate. The statement urged party members and the public to disregard the "malicious propaganda" and emphasized the ADC's commitment to due process and internal democracy.
