2027: Ogun APC names Adegunwa-Balogun Yayi’s running mate

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. She will serve as the running mate to Senator Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi.

Adegunwa-Balogun, a 51-year-old Chartered Accountant and daughter of industrialist Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa, currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at Rite Foods Limited. Her selection follows the zoning of the deputy governorship slot to the Ogun East senatorial district and its subsequent micro-zoning to the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision during a state APC strategic caucus meeting in Abeokuta. He explained that the choice was made after extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders. Political observers view Adegunwa-Balogun's nomination as a strategic move by the APC to enhance its appeal to professionals, women, and voters in the Ogun East region ahead of the upcoming polls.

Governor Abiodun also commended the party for its unity during the recent primary elections, describing the process as unprecedented in the state's political history. He highlighted that the APC successfully nominated 39 candidates for various elective offices without significant internal crises, attributing this success to a spirit of consensus and collective endorsement of a successor.
