2027: Ogun APC Picks Adegunwa-Balogun, Chartered Accountant, as Dep Gov Choice

In Ogun State, Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has finalized its ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial race by selecting Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate. This decision follows the earlier endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the party's governorship candidate.

The nomination took place at an APC Strategic Caucus Meeting in Abeokuta. Adegunwa-Balogun, a chartered accountant and daughter of Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, founder of RITE FOODS, hails from Ososa Town in Odogbolu Local Government.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, announcing the choice, stated that the selection was made after careful consideration of various factors. He praised the party's candidate selection process for the 2027 elections, calling it a model for other states. Abiodun also commended aspirants who stepped down for consensus, noting that some would be compensated with positions like commissioners and special advisers to ensure inclusiveness.

The candidate was chosen among 17 women, who showed interest in the position of deputy governor and were eminently qualified.

Senator Adeola expressed his long-standing acquaintance with Adegunwa-Balogun, having known her for over 27 years through her husband, a former Lagos State House of Assembly member. He mentioned that she was chosen from a pool of 17 qualified women who expressed interest in the deputy governor position. Adeola credited Governor Abiodun for his significant assistance in selecting his running mate and for providing strong leadership within the party, fostering a rancor-free consensus arrangement.

Abiodun had really helped him in the choice of his running mate and also commended him for providing good leadership in the running of the affairs of the party and in ensuring a rancour-free consensus arrangement and primaries.

In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun thanked the governor and party leaders for their confidence in her. She pledged to work with her principal to advance Ogun State, interpreting the leaders' action as a demonstration of inclusiveness.
