2027: PDP can best deliver Tinubu’s agenda in Lagos — Doherty

Adedeji Doherty, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate for Lagos State governor in 2027, has asserted that his party is best equipped to ensure the successful implementation of President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda' in Nigeria's economic powerhouse.

I wouldn’t want to say too much today, but I want to let you know that we will challenge the sitting government in Lagos.

Doherty, speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, argued that Lagos State, while serving as the nation's financial and commercial center, has fallen short in complementing federal initiatives across key sectors like education, healthcare, power, transportation, and security. He stressed that the effective translation of federal policies into tangible benefits for residents hinges on Lagos's active participation.

"Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can do all he wants to do as President," Doherty stated. "His Renewed Hope Agenda, his removal of fuel subsidy, his creation of Band A and Band B in the power sector... Even in the FCT, his various Renewed Hope programmes cannot show, except Lagos buys into whatever he is doing."

Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, can do all he wants to do as President. His Renewed Hope Agenda, his removal of fuel subsidy, his creation of Band A and Band B in the power sector, his opening up of the power industry, his empowerment programmes for youths, and his aggressiveness in using ministers like our national leader to execute his Renewed Hope Agenda. Even in the FCT, his various Renewed Hope programmes cannot show, except Lagos buys into whatever he is doing.

He emphasized Lagos's significant role, noting its estimated 20 to 25 million residents and nearly 13 million registered voters. Doherty highlighted that Lagos State's economic output rivals that of several West African nations combined, yet commensurate investment has not followed. He believes the PDP's approach would prioritize the youth and the environment, leveraging his background as a businessman and entrepreneur to drive tangible progress.

Where you do not have Lagos attached to the execution of what the President is doing, it will not really show and have an effect on the generality of the people.
