2027 Push: Akpabio Takes Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ Campaign to Northern Nigeria

Godswill Akpabio has taken President Bola Tinubu’s re-election case to Northern Nigeria, urging young people to support the administration’s economic reforms and policy continuity in 2027.

The Senate president made the appeal in Abuja while receiving a high-level delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly. He described the removal of the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms as painful measures, but said they were necessary to reposition the economy and redirect public resources toward healthcare, education and infrastructure.

He said the reforms had crossed a critical threshold and were beginning to deliver tangible benefits, including improved revenue collection, stronger investor confidence and renewed interest from international partners.

The reforms initiated by President Tinubu are not abstract theories; they are concrete, courageous actions designed to dismantle long-standing structural bottlenecks and unlock Nigeria’s vast potential.

“While these measures initially posed challenges, they were the surgical procedures needed to redirect resources into healthcare, education, and infrastructure,” he said. Akpabio also urged Northern youths to take responsibility in the present rather than wait for the future. “You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow,” he told the delegation.

He said the 10th National Assembly was prioritising transparency, accountability and the rule of law, and called for critical engagement with information and constructive dialogue. His comments came as political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum. Akpabio argued that abandoning the reform programme before it is consolidated could undermine the gains being recorded.
