2027: Turaki PDP backs opposition push to oust Tinubu

A faction of Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki has joined the G-100 alliance, an opposition coalition seeking to build a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

The faction’s Interim National Working Committee said its participation followed the need to cooperate with other political forces to address what it described as hardship, insecurity and poverty under the APC administration. Representatives of six opposition parties attended the alliance’s inaugural summit at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

The Peoples Democratic Party, as a responsible opposition party, has endorsed the G-100, a group of 100 opposition stalwarts, driven process of creating an all-opposition front to challenge the incumbent APC candidate in the 2027 general elections.

The PDP faction said the meeting formed part of broader efforts to create a common platform for opposition cooperation. “The Peoples Democratic Party, as a responsible opposition party, has endorsed the G-100, a group of 100 opposition stalwarts, driven process of creating an all-opposition front to challenge the incumbent APC candidate in the 2027 general elections,” it said.

The party said its involvement would rest on transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism. It added that a process based on those principles could produce leadership capable of easing poverty and insecurity. The faction also linked the move to its earlier support for cooperation with political parties and organisations seeking to remove what it called the vices associated with the APC government.

This decision is informed by the wailings of Nigerians groaning under the repressive Bola Tinubu APC-led Federal Government, and the compelling need to join forces with other credible political forces in search of the country’s redemption.
