21yo man dies after stabbing on Tennant Creek street

A 21-year-old man has died following a stabbing in Tennant Creek, in Australia's Northern Territory, with police investigating a potential connection to ongoing community unrest. The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. on Friday, June 12.

Upon arrival, five minutes later, at quarter past one, police located the 21-year-old at the intersection of Staunton and Grigg street.

Northern Territory Police Acting Commander Mark Grieve stated that officers found the victim with a significant stab wound to his upper body at the intersection of Staunton and Grigg streets. Despite immediate first aid from police and subsequent attention from St John Ambulance, the man was pronounced deceased shortly after 1:55 a.m.

The male had a significant stab wound to his upper body, resulting in severe blood loss.

Authorities believe a large crowd was present at the time of the attack. Grieve indicated that the stabbing may be linked to recent disturbances in Tennant Creek, which have included riotous behavior, property damage, and family feuding over the past week. The victim is believed to be a local resident.

There's been some ongoing disturbances in Tennant Creek over the last week, stemming from some riotous behaviour on the weekend.

Police are actively seeking witnesses and are working to identify other individuals believed to have been present during the incident. In an effort to de-escalate tensions and prevent retaliatory violence, officers are also consulting with local elders. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

We had one person seriously injured and some vehicles set alight, so we believe there's been a few flare-ups based in and around some family feuding.
