240 packages of suspected marijuana seized in La Unión, Lempira

Honduran authorities have confiscated approximately 240 packages of suspected marijuana in the western department of Lempira. The seizure occurred on the road connecting the municipality of La Unión to San Nicolás, Santa Bárbara.

Agents from the National Directorate of Anti-Drug Police (DNPA), operating under the Regional Anti-Drug Unit No. 4 (URAN-4) of Copán, alongside other police units and coordinated by the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Organized Crime (FESCCO), conducted the operation. Sub-commissioner Edgardo Barahona, spokesperson for the Secretariat of Security, confirmed the seizure and the arrest of four individuals.

During the inspection of the vehicle, the agents located artificially made false compartments, where they found 77 double packages and 21 single packages containing alleged marijuana, strategically hidden with the purpose of evading the police controls established in the area.

The operation targeted a pick-up truck that was under surveillance due to suspicions of being used for transporting illegal drugs. During the inspection, officers discovered artisanal hidden compartments within the vehicle. These compartments contained 77 double packages and 21 single packages of what is believed to be marijuana, strategically concealed to evade police checkpoints.

Further examination of the vehicle revealed additional packages hidden in one of the tires. In total, officers found 106 double packages and 29 single packages, bringing the total to 241 packages of alleged marijuana. The four individuals arrested are now in custody as the investigation continues.
