30 fire outbreaks 'liquidated' in Yanacachi; 50 families affected

Yanacachi, Bolivia, is grappling with the aftermath of widespread fires that began on August 5, with authorities reporting the control of approximately 30 fire outbreaks in the Tahuacusi community.

Minister of Defense Ernesto Justiniano announced that military personnel from the Emergency Military Unit and the "Cnl. Vidaurre" Communications Battalion successfully extinguished numerous fires. However, efforts continue in other affected areas of the municipality, with 23 military firefighters deployed alongside volunteers and local officials.

The fires have inflicted severe damage across the Yanacachi municipality, impacting communities such as Tahuacusi, Chocana, Santa Rosa, and Villa Aspiazu. According to the Ministry of Defense, 50 families have been affected, facing significant destruction to vegetation, agricultural fields, and essential health and education facilities. The fires remain active in some parts of the municipality.

Despite the extensive damage, there have been no reports of injuries. The emergency declaration highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the region in combating the blazes and recovering from the environmental and infrastructural losses.
