30 Years of CSD Braunschweig: Thousands Celebrate Pride Peacefully

Braunschweig celebrated Christopher Street Day (CSD) with an estimated 6,000 people gathering for a vibrant, peaceful, and lively event advocating for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals. Police reported that the demonstration proceeded without any incidents, describing the atmosphere as "everything peaceful, everything quiet."

The turnout significantly exceeded previous years, when police typically counted between 4,500 and 5,000 participants. This year's larger crowd underscores the growing visibility and engagement within the LGBTQ+ community and its allies in the region.

Following a recent attack at the Berlin CSD late in July, security precautions were heightened for the Braunschweig event. Several streets were cordoned off, and mobile barriers were used to secure the parade route. A noticeable increase in police officers was deployed to ensure public safety throughout the festivities.

Residents were advised to expect traffic diversions and restrictions in the city until the evening as a result of the event and the associated security measures. The CSD Braunschweig marked its 30th anniversary this year, highlighting decades of advocacy and celebration for LGBTQ+ rights.
