300 Caraga police officers assigned as poll workers for BARMM elections

At least 300 police officers from the Philippines’ Caraga region will take on election duties in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, stepping in where teachers cannot serve because of security or personal concerns.

The officers from Police Regional Office-13 completed a two-day Commission on Elections training in Butuan City. The course covered the responsibilities of electoral board members, voting procedures, ballot counting and the transmission of results.

Participants also received hands-on instruction in using automated counting machine kits. Trainers briefed them on contingency measures for technical problems that could arise on Election Day.

Police Regional Office-13 Director Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon urged the officers to maintain discipline, integrity and professionalism while supporting the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections. The assignment forms part of preparations intended to keep voting orderly, peaceful and credible.

Police Regional Office-BARMM Director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia said roughly 5,000 additional police personnel from several regional offices, including Caraga, are expected to arrive on Sept. 8. Quick reaction teams will be included. About 2,000 officers will remain on standby to replace teachers who withdraw or fail to report at polling stations.
