300 corps members will be attached to CNG centres after training — FG

Nigeria's Federal Government is launching a program to train 300 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as certified compressed natural gas (CNG) technicians. These trained corps members will then be attached to CNG conversion centers across the country.

The initiative, disclosed by Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, is a key component of Nigeria's strategy to transition to CNG. The program aims to retrofit 100,000 vehicles annually, positioning CNG as a viable and cost-effective alternative following the removal of fuel subsidies. The National Automotive and Development Council is providing technical support and funding.

Following the removal of the fuel subsidy in 2033, compressed natural gas (CNG) emerged as the most viable and affordable alternative for Nigerian motorists and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu set a national target of 100,000 vehicles to be retrofitted annually.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, highlighted that this training will significantly expand entrepreneurship and job opportunities for young Nigerians. He urged the corps members to leverage this chance to embrace sustainable energy and apply their new skills. The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, emphasized the inter-agency collaboration and the program's alignment with President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda," noting the NYSC's readiness to support Nigeria's energy transition and its history of training millions in various skills.
