31 abductees freed as military destroys Zamfara terrorist camps

Troops operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 31 individuals who had been held captive. The coordinated operations, spanning Zamfara and Katsina states, also resulted in the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and the neutralization of five terrorists. The military recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles from the criminal elements.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division Nigerian Army, the rescue operation near the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Zamfara State followed precision air interdiction and a ground assault. The victims, who had been in captivity for weeks, hailed from various local government areas across Zamfara and Sokoto states. They have received medical attention and are awaiting reunification with their families.

The kidnapped victims were rescued from captivity following a precision air interdiction conducted by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and a follow-on ground operation on terrorist enclaves west of Bagega Forest.

In separate engagements, troops in Zamfara neutralized two terrorists and destroyed camps along the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis, recovering rifles and motorcycles. In Katsina, troops intercepted terrorists en route to an attack, killing three after a fierce exchange of gunfire and seizing motorcycles and ammunition. One of the neutralized terrorists was identified as a soldier loyal to a notorious kingpin, Muhammad Fulani.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has pledged to continue its offensive operations against criminal elements, aiming to eradicate terrorism and ensure the safety and security of citizens throughout the North-West region.
