37-year-old man dies in parachute accident on Læsø

An experienced skydiver tragically lost his life in a parachute accident on the Danish island of Læsø on Sunday. The 37-year-old man was declared dead at the scene after the incident, which occurred around 4:58 PM.

North Jutland Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal jump. Vagtchef Christian Tilsted stated that the victim was a "rutineret springer" (experienced jumper) and that the jump was not a tandem one. The police are working with the Danish Parachute Union and their accident investigators.

We have been out there with our local officer on Læsø, and together with the Danish Parachute Union and their accident responsible person, we are conducting investigations. Therefore, I cannot say anything concrete about what happened.

While the exact altitude of the jump is unknown, police are thoroughly examining all equipment. "There is no immediate indication of equipment failure, but it is naturally part of the investigation," Tilsted said. The aircraft used for the jump, organized by a parachute club based in Mid-Jutland, and its pilot are remaining on Læsø for further questioning and examination. No further jumps are permitted at this time.
