48-hour warning strike to disrupt public transport in four Schleswig-Holstein cities

Bus services in four Schleswig-Holstein cities are expected to come to a standstill for 48 hours after Verdi called a warning strike.

The union asked about 1,800 employees in Kiel, Lübeck, Flensburg and Neumünster to stop work on Tuesday and Wednesday. The strike is scheduled to begin with the relevant early shifts, at about 3 a.m., and end on Thursday morning. Buses are to remain in depots.

Bus services operated by transport companies in the Plön district will also be affected. Those workers are striking as part of the nationwide collective bargaining round for the railway collective agreement, according to the report.

Verdi is demanding a 6.5% pay increase for all employees over a 12-month contract period in both bargaining areas. For union members, it also wants an annual benefit of €650.

The second round of negotiations in local public transport broke down in early September. Verdi negotiator Sascha Bähring said the two rounds had left the bargaining committee convinced that meaningful progress would not come without pressure.
