5 American cruise passengers arrested after port fight in Bahamas

Authorities in the Bahamas have arrested five American cruise ship passengers following a physical altercation at the Nassau Cruise Port and a subsequent "violent struggle" with police. The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that officers intervened in a fight among passengers on Monday afternoon.

According to preliminary reports, shortly after 4:45 p.m., police officers were alerted to a physical altercation involving several cruise ship passengers within the Nassau Cruise Port area. Officers responded and, with the assistance of additional personnel, intervened and took three females and two males into custody.

Upon arrival at the police station, the situation escalated when officers attempted to search the five individuals. Police stated that a "violent struggle" ensued, during which one female suspect allegedly threw a chair, shattering a glass door. A male suspect then reportedly broke the remaining glass and tried to escape but was quickly apprehended.

Additional police units were called to restore order. Video footage appears to show people being pushed to the ground and a man being restrained by officers after climbing out of a damaged door. The five passengers sustained minor injuries during the initial port incident and received treatment.

One female suspect allegedly threw a chair through a southern glass door, causing it to shatter. A male suspect then allegedly kicked out the remaining glass and attempted to escape, but was immediately subdued by officers.

However, the confrontation at the police station resulted in damaged uniforms for several officers and injuries to four of them. One officer suffered a serious shoulder injury and was taken to the hospital. The condition of the injured officer was unknown at the time of the report. The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
