5 suspects in kidnap of Indian nabbed

Police rescued a 24-year-old Indian medical student allegedly kidnapped by five Indian nationals in Las Piñas over the weekend.

The victim was found near Las Piñas City Hall along Alabang-Zapote Road in Barangay Pamplona Tres. The Anti-Kidnapping Group coordinated with Las Piñas police and the Southern Police District during the operation, which led to the arrest of five suspects aged 24 to 26.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. praised the rapid response of the police units. He said, "Effective police coordination remains critical when lives are at risk."

In a separate case, authorities arrested two South Korean fugitives in Makati. Son Jongin, 65, faces fraud charges in South Korea and is also an undocumented alien in the Philippines. During the operation to serve his arrest warrant in Barangay Comembo, authorities encountered Song Ung Il, 85, who has faced a deportation order since 2015 over improper documentation.

The Bureau of Immigration worked with the Korean National Police Agency to apprehend Son after South Korean authorities reported that the Nonsan branch of the Daejeon District Court had issued a 2020 arrest warrant. Son and Song remain detained at the Bureau of Immigration warden's facility while their cases are resolved. Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said, "Fugitives cannot expect to hide in the Philippines and evade the cases filed against them. We will find them, we will arrest them and we will enforce our immigration laws."
