53-Year-Old Former Hong Kong Teen Star Yip Yuen-yi Spends All of August Working With Clay in Taipei

Yip Yuen-yi spent the entire month of August with clay at her studio in Taipei, describing the city’s creative atmosphere as a powerful source of inspiration.

The 53-year-old Hong Kong actress and former teen star said the studio’s space and atmosphere gave her many unexpected ideas. Once she sat down, she could completely immerse herself in her own world, she said.

Her month was focused and fulfilling. She also visited several Taipei exhibitions and met ceramic artist friends to exchange ideas and absorb creative energy. “I’m going all out from here. I’m working desperately toward the exhibition in mid-October, and my new works will soon meet everyone. Wait for me!” she wrote.

Yip began appearing in commercials at 13 before entering the entertainment industry. She became known for a pure and youthful image after rising to prominence in Hong Kong’s film and television scene in the late 1980s. Her listed films include Miracles, Blessing, Chicken and Duck Talk, and Asura. She has also worked in Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, mainland China and other parts of Asia.
