69% of French 10-14 Year Olds Support Social Media Ban for Under-15s, Study Finds

A significant majority of French children aged 10 to 14 are in favor of prohibiting social media access for those under 15, according to a recent study by Arcom, the French audiovisual regulator. The survey revealed that nearly seven in ten children in this age group support such a ban, indicating a widespread awareness and concern about the impact of social media on younger users.

The study also explored compliance with the anticipated legislation. While a majority of the surveyed children stated their intention to adhere to the new rules once they are enacted, a notable portion expressed plans to circumvent the restrictions. Approximately one-third of the children indicated they are already contemplating methods to bypass the age limit, suggesting challenges in enforcing the ban effectively.

This finding highlights a potential generational divide in understanding and navigating digital platforms. While younger children recognize the need for protection, their digital fluency may lead them to seek alternative ways to access restricted content.
