69-year-old Edmonton man dead following Parkland collision

A 69-year-old motorcyclist from Edmonton has died following a collision involving a pickup truck in Parkland County, west of Edmonton. The fatal crash occurred early Thursday morning on Highway 627, near Range Road 273.

RCMP and EMS responded to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The 82-year-old driver of the pickup truck, who is from Spruce Grove, was uninjured.

Collision reconstructionists were at the scene throughout the morning to determine the sequence of events leading to the crash. Highway 627 was closed for the investigation but was expected to reopen by early Thursday afternoon.

This incident marks the second fatal crash in the Edmonton area reported on Thursday. Earlier in the day, a 21-year-old woman died in a separate single-vehicle collision east of Sherwood Park. Authorities have not yet disclosed the causes behind either crash.
