823 Battle veterans return to Kinmen, pilot's warm broadcast sparks applause

A flight carrying veterans of the 1958 Kinmen Battle returned to the island for its 68th anniversary, receiving a hero's welcome. As the Uni Air flight neared Kinmen, the pilot broadcast a message of respect to the veterans, thanking them for their contributions to peace and stability. The pilot invited passengers to applaud the veterans, who were returning to the battlefield where they fought.

The flight, Uni Air 8811, was scheduled to arrive at Kinmen Shangyi Airport on a Saturday morning. Before landing, the pilot's emotional announcement resonated with passengers, acknowledging the veterans' bravery in defending the land. The warm reception moved the veterans, who were returning to Kinmen for the commemoration.

Over 100 veterans and families of fallen soldiers are participating in the 68th anniversary events. Organized by the Republic of China 823 Battle Comrades Association and the 823 Battle Martyrs' Families Encouragement Association, the veterans will visit the 823 Artillery Battle Museum and the Guningtou Battle Museum. They will also attend a memorial service at Taiwu Mountain Cemetery.
