9 of 10 Isolated South Koreans Rescued from Nepal Floods

Nine out of ten South Korean nationals who were isolated by severe landslides and floods in Nepal have been successfully evacuated to a safe zone. The group, working on a dam construction project by Doosan Enerbility in the Rasuwa region, had been awaiting rescue after the disaster struck.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul held a phone conversation with Nepal's Foreign Minister, Shisir Kumar Kunal. Minister Cho emphasized the grave concern over the one remaining missing South Korean citizen and requested Nepal's active attention and support for a swift and safe rescue operation. He also informed Kunal about President Lee Jae-myung's directive to mobilize all available resources for the search and rescue efforts, including the potential dispatch of South Korea's Overseas Emergency Rescue Team.

During the call, Minister Kunal provided an update on the scale of the flood damage in the Rasuwa region and the ongoing response efforts. Minister Cho conveyed his deep condolences to the Nepalese people and families affected by the disaster. He also announced South Korea's commitment to provide $1 million (approximately 1.38 billion won) in humanitarian aid through international organizations operating in Nepal to support immediate relief and early recovery.

The South Korean government has dispatched a joint rapid response team to Nepal, working closely with local authorities to facilitate the search and rescue operations for their missing national. The team is coordinating efforts to ensure the smooth progress of these activities, with the full cooperation of the Nepalese government.
