94-year-old artist Fung Chak-po survives life-threatening illness after coma

Veteran Hong Kong artist "Brother Sau" Fung Chak-po, aged 94, recently faced a life-threatening health crisis. Fung, who recently set a record as the oldest Chinese artist to hold a concert, was admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering septic shock due to acute cholangitis. His daughter-in-law, Jojo, revealed that the condition was caused by a bile stone falling into his bile duct, leading to a bacterial infection. Fung was intubated and remained in a coma for four days. His family initially concealed the severity of his illness to avoid disturbing medical staff and allow him to recover peacefully. Doctors described his condition as a brush with death, emphasizing the critical nature of his illness. They performed an emergency bile duct unblocking and removed his gallbladder to prevent recurrence. Fung expressed his fear upon learning the details, but the doctor reassured him that he was not yet ready for retirement. Recalling his recovery, Fung described the disorientation of waking up in an unfamiliar environment. He found strength in the memories of his family, friends, and fans, attributing his survival to a strong will to live and a desire to reconnect with loved ones. He expressed deep gratitude to the medical team for their care and to everyone who supported him. Fung stated that he will cherish his time with family and friends even more and plans to meet them all soon. He extended his sincere thanks to the medical staff and his supporters.
