Aalborg Rediscover Winning Formula After Shock Defeat

Aalborg’s handball players quickly returned to the winning path after their shock defeat by Fredericia earlier in the week, beating Skjern 33-30 away on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Niklas Landin played the leading role, making 14 saves and repeatedly preventing Skjern from closing the gap late in the match. The teams stayed close through a first half marked by errors and missed chances, but Aalborg began to pull away in the final minutes before the interval.

Skjern’s Axel Månsson reduced the deficit to one goal just before halftime, making it 13-14 when his shot went through Landin’s face. The match remained intense, with frequent stoppages as the referees assessed the many physical duels.

Skjern improved its scoring after the break but could not draw level. Marinus Munk repeatedly showed his strength in one-on-one breakthroughs for Aalborg, while Landin continued to stop Skjern’s shots. Juri Knorr’s goal for 30-26 with five minutes remaining effectively settled the match.

Aalborg now has six points after four games, two more than Skjern. At the top, Ribe-Esbjerg surrendered its perfect start by drawing 30-30 away with last-placed TMS Ringsted. Ribe-Esbjerg led 18-13 at halftime, but two five-goal runs turned the game around before the leaders rescued a point. Skanderborg AGF, last season’s silver medalists, beat Skive 42-38.
