Aalst dance team heads to Hip Hop World Championship in Phoenix with Pitbull tribute

Six dancers from Aalst, Belgium, are heading to Phoenix, USA, to represent their country at the Hip Hop Internationals World Championship. This marks the second time the Show Off Dance Complex team will compete in the prestigious event, which brings together over 3,000 dancers from approximately 55 nations.

Describing the championship as "the Olympics of dancing," team member Charlene De Backer explained that the dancers are fully transforming into the artist Pitbull for their performance. This includes wearing a bald cap, which they have been using all season to perfect their act choreographed by Rudi Smit. The team, composed of Charlene, Karo, Nele, Chloë, Wiktoria, and Vincent, hopes to advance past the first round, where half of the roughly 70 competing teams are eliminated.

De Backer also shed light on the challenges faced by dance in Belgium, noting that it often remains "under the radar." The team is determined to bring more attention to the art form and prove its merit on an international stage. Their participation in the world championship is a significant step in this endeavor.
