Abia promises improved healthcare as general hospital nears completion

The Abia State Government is set to enhance healthcare services with the imminent completion of the Obingwa General Hospital renovation in Mgboko. The facility is undergoing extensive upgrades as part of a broader initiative to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all residents.

We came to look at the extent of completion of this facility and we are pleased to see that it is almost ready. Equipment installation has already commenced and some of the equipment have been delivered.

During a pre-completion inspection, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, expressed satisfaction with the progress, confirming that equipment installation is underway. He stated that the hospital's development aligns with Governor Alex Otti's vision and directives, emphasizing its role as a comprehensive healthcare facility.

We are here to ensure that the project is implemented as designed and in line with the aspirations and directives of His Excellency.

Upon commissioning, the Obingwa General Hospital will function as a key referral center for primary healthcare facilities in Obingwa and surrounding areas, including parts of Aba. It is equipped to handle complex medical cases such as complicated pregnancies, surgical procedures, and childhood illnesses that cannot be managed at lower-level clinics.

This is not just a general hospital. It is a comprehensive healthcare facility equipped with a surgical theatre, eye clinic, dental clinic, standard laboratory, radiology and ultrasound units, delivery rooms, male and female wards, children’s wards, a nutrition clinic, an accident and emergency unit, ambulance services and amenity wards for patients seeking more personalised care.
