Abinader to open school year in Santo Domingo Este

President Luis Abinader will lead the official opening of the 2026-2027 school year on Monday in Santo Domingo Este. The ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. at the Espejo La Milagrosa Basic School in the Cancela-La Ureña sector.

The Ministry of Education (Minerd) stated that the event signifies more than just welcoming students; it renews society's commitment to education. The public school year is set to begin on August 24, while private schools have varying start dates extending to September 5.

This year, the Minerd anticipates over two million students will enroll in the public education system. In preparation, the ministry has already incorporated more than 1,200 new classrooms nationwide. The Espejo La Milagrosa school itself, inaugurated by President Abinader in April, can accommodate 840 primary-level students and features 24 classrooms, including three for early childhood education. The construction cost was over 121 million pesos and includes sports facilities and a library.
