Abiodun tasks Ogun monarchs on peaceful 2027 elections

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called upon traditional rulers across the state to leverage their influence at the grassroots level to ensure peaceful and responsible participation in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The governor emphasized the importance of civic engagement and urged the monarchs to mobilize their subjects to shun violence and thuggery.

Beyond security, I also called on our royal fathers to continue mobilising our people towards responsible civic participation, particularly as we enter another electoral season.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Governor Abiodun stressed that the strength of democracy is measured not only by voter turnout but also by the peace and sound judgment exercised by citizens. He highlighted that traditional institutions, with their extensive reach and moral authority, play a crucial role in safeguarding the state's peace and development during electoral periods.

Our people should be encouraged to recognise and support the development strides of the government and, when the time comes, translate their appreciation into their democratic choices at the polls.

He encouraged the monarchs to remind their subjects that elections should never be an excuse for violence, hatred, or division, urging them to uphold the peace collectively nurtured in the state.
